
This is the second year of the Holland Hall Athletic Hall of Fame, and once again 10 individuals will be honored. Beginning in 2009, five individuals will be inducted each year.
This year’s honorees are:
Athletes
Dale Fleming McNamara '53
McNamara attended the University of Oklahoma and The University of Tulsa, where she played golf and earned the distinction of being the first female to be awarded a varsity athletic letter. Her distinguished twenty-six year career as Tulsa University's Head Woman's Golf Coach is well documented. Her teams won four national championships. Dale has been honored as an NCAA Coach of the Year. She was named as one of the top ten coaches of the 20th Century and has been inducted into the Oklahoma Woman's Golf Hall of Fame, The University of Tulsa Sports Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
Cadijah P. "Cip" Frizzell '76
Frizzell earned ten varsity letters while participating in three sports at Holland Hall. She started as a varsity player for three years in field hockey and volleyball and four years in basketball. She was named first team All SPC in three sports her senior year. Her college basketball career included two years at University of Northern Colorado and three at Oral Roberts University.
Robb Glendening '76
Glendening earned eleven varsity letters in four sports, football, basketball, baseball and track. He was named the first team All SPC shortstop and Tulsa World All City Baseball Team. Just prior to his senior year he played shortstop on an American Legion team that played in the finals of the National AL tournament. Rob was a four-year letterman at the University of Oklahoma, played on two Big Eight championship teams and was named first team All Big Eight as a second baseman.
Jan Webb '79
Webb lettered three years in both basketball and volleyball and was named the most valuable player and captain of both teams her senior year. She led the basketball team to three SPC Division I championships and was named first team all-conference three years. She attended ORU and she played on a volleyball team that qualified for the United States Volleyball Association National Tournament three years in a row.
Toby Clark '84
As a high school athlete Clark earned nine varsity letters while playing football, soccer and tennis. As a tennis player, he was elected captain, earned All SPC honors and was named the most valuable player three years in a row. He graduated from Principia College as one of the most distinguished NCAA Division III college athletes ever. As a two sport lettermen, Toby was named first team All-American in soccer once and tennis twice. In 1985 and again in '87 he won the National Tennis Singles Championship
Tag Gross '87
Gross earned eleven varsity letters while in the Upper School at Holland Hall, four each in football and basketball and three in baseball. His senior year he was named All SPC in football, basketball and track. He was named to the Tulsa All City Football Team and received the Dutchmen Trophy at commencement. His college football experience included one year at LSU before becoming a Kansas Jayhawk, where he played three years. He currently coaches football at Holland Hall.
Emily McKee Wilson '89
Wilson is one of the few athletes to earn twelve varsity letters while participating in field hockey, basketball and tennis. She not only earned twelve letters, she was named the most valuable player in all three sports, along with being selected to receive the Margaret W. Kaboth trophy at commencement. Emily was selected to an unprecedented six SPC All-Conference teams; three in basketball, two in field hockey and one in tennis.
Jeff Utter '92
Utter earned eight varsity letters while playing football, basketball and running track. He was named All SPC twice in football, once in basketball and once in track. In 1991 he helped lead his football team to a SPC championship and was honored as a member of the All City football team. As a college athlete, Jeff earned three varsity letters while playing wide receiver at The University of Tulsa. He is the only receiver in TU history to have touchdown receptions in victories over University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
Damon Savage '95
Savage earned nine varsity letters, played on three SPC championship soccer and track teams, as well as three SPC Runner Up football and soccer teams. He was named the most valuable football and soccer player and selected as a member of the Tulsa All City Football team. He attended The University of Tulsa to play football was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Conference team. Today he remains the fifth all time leading receiver in TU history.
Bethany Greer Monroe '98
While participating in four sports, field hockey, basketball, softball and track Monroe earned eleven varsity letters, four in field hockey and basketball and three in softball. She was named the most valuable player in field hockey and basketball. She received three SPC All-Conference Team recognitions. Beth attended the University of Richmond where she earned three-varsity letters playing field hockey.
Coach
Lynne Caroon
In 1975 Caroon began a long and distinguished career as a physical education teacher and coach of girl's field hockey, soccer and volleyball. Lynne served as head coach of field hockey for twenty-seven years, soccer for thirteen years and volleyball for eight years. Her record as a field hockey coach includes nine SPC Division I championships, eight second place finishes, two undefeated seasons and an overall record of 241 wins, 85 loses and 30 ties. Her soccer coaching accomplishments include two SPC Division I championships and two second place finishes with a record of 90 wins, 55 loses and 20 ties. As a volleyball coach she had a record of 127 wins, 82 loses and 6 ties. Holland Hall did not participate in SPC volleyball during her tenure, or her teams would have won more championships.
Special Award
Dr. Brian Howard
Howard has been affiliated with Holland Hall since 1966 as a student and athletic team physician. During the past twenty years as a member of the CSOS team, Brian has not only given his time to be on the sideline at Holland Hall football games, he has seen to it that the school was provided a medical trainer to treat and rehabilitate injuries. In 1988, Jim Mansfield was a physical therapist at CSOS and Howard arranged to have him available for all Holland Hall athletes and coaches. Later Howard was influential in the decision to hire Jim as the full-time medical trainer. Over the years. Howard has provided medical supplies, a golf cart for the trainer, but most of all he has provided sound medical advice and a friendship that extends over a forty-two year span. He has served Holland Hall as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Team
'84 Field Hockey
The 1984 SPC Division I Championship field hockey team began the Dutch hockey dominance that carried the school to four championships in the next five years. The team was led by co-captains, Suzanne Hale and Susannah Hocutt. Susannah earned All-Conference honors and was named the team's most valuable player. The dominance of this team is highlighted by one set of statistics. The Dutch scored forty-four goals and allowed only three in fourteen matches. The Dutch defeated the Casady Cyclones twice. The leading scorers were Whitney Nelson and Beth Garrison with fourteen and twelve goals respectively. The goalie, Bria Bartlett, allowed only three goals. Other outstanding members of this team included Beth Lieser and Michele Beynet. Michele played at Stanford and was inducted to this Hall of Fame one year ago. The team was not only made up of good athletes, but players who really enjoyed the game and sharing the experience together.
